Region 8 Union Officers "Adopt" HUD Hurricane Victim Families! These two pictures show some (not all) of the items union officials sent to two "adopted" families after Hurricane Katrina. Local 3972 Steward and Council 222 Communication Committee member Patty Petry got the items donated and Local 3972 board approved and paid for the shipping (4 big boxes went to each family). Personal items such as toothpaste, disposable razors, deodorant and body lotions were shipping along with anything from rubber gloves for cleaning, to new cake pans for cooking! Flashlights and a large assortment of batteries were also shipped. Here's what 3972 officers received via email that prompted them to say "YES, WE'LL HELP HUD EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES!!!" |

"... we have the opportunity to help do that right here in Seattle. I have just learned that Renee B is preparing to open her home to three young relatives from New Orleans. Three boys are being sent to by their family to Renee’s home so that they can start school and regain some semblance of a stable life after the disaster of Katrina. Their family lost every thing in the flood of New Orleans. The boys (Edmond 18 - a high school senior, Evan - 14, and Ehren –10) will be arriving with little more than the shirts on their back. The boys' mother will follow them as soon as she can, but she is currently dealing with elderly relatives evacuated to several states." "Iona , from the New Orleans Office will be working in the San Antonio office for the next two weeks or more. Her home, car, everything is under water. She was out of town the weekend Katrina hit and was not able to get back to her home to save anything. She and her son have found an apartment and will be moving into it today. The apartment is all she has. If you would like to contribute in any way to help I know Iona and her son would certainly appreciate it." |
